The United States Air Force has deployed about 90 soldiers and several MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles to a base located in the city of Campia Turzii, in Romania.
This branch of the United States Armed Forces reported in a statement.
According to the military, the deployment will allow intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions to be carried out in support of NATO operations.
Likewise, the MQ-9 drones will carry out missions with freedom of maneuver and will be integrated into joint and coalition forces in the region.
In Romania, drones will also be able to participate in exercises that guarantee interoperability with allied and partner nations.
Positioning the MQ-9s at “this key strategic location” sends the message to our adversaries that “we can respond quickly to any emerging threat,” said Jeff Harrigian, commander of the US Air Forces in Europe and elsewhere.
According to the US military, the deployment has been fully coordinated with the Romanian government.
