Two strategic Tu-95MS Russian missile bombers carried out flights on neutral waters of the Bering Sea on Thursday in the framework of the military exercises Ocean Shield-2019, reports the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
The mission lasted more than 10 hours and, at certain stages of this planned flight, two fighters of the United States Air Force, an F-22 and an F-18, accompanied Russian strategic bombers. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, aviation regularly makes flights over neutral waters of the Arctic, the Atlantic, the Black Sea and the Pacific.
“All aviation flights are carried out in strict accordance with international standards for the use of airspace, without violating the borders of other States,” said the Ministry of Defense.
The Shield of the Ocean-2019 exercises run from August 1 to 9 in the Baltic Sea. The maneuvers involve 49 ships, 20 supply ships, 58 aircraft and 10,634 soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces.
The military exercises are aimed at calibrating the readiness of the Navy forces to protect the national interests of Russia and develop skills for the management of fleet forces.
