Brazilian singer Gabriel Diniz, famous for playing last summer’s song in his native country, died on Monday May 27 in a plane crash, as reported by his producer. The artist and two pilots took off in a small plane in Salvador (Bahia), and were heading to Maceió in the northeast (Alagoas). The airplane crashed halfway in the southern state of Sergipe, for reasons that are not clear.
The young singer of 28 years, rose to fame in 2018 with the song ‘Jenifer’, a catchy dance subject that speaks in a lighthearted manner about a sentimental relationship initiated through the application of Tinder quotes. It started as a joke between a group of friends and ended up being a hit in Brazil.
“With much regret we confirm the death of Gabriel Diniz and all of the crew.” Confirmed his producer Luan Promoçoes, the death of the three people who were on the plane. As reported by the Brazilian press, the small plane in which they were traveling did not have express authorization to travel as an air taxi, but only in training functions.
Born in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (center-west of Brazil), Diniz was going to fly to Maceió to celebrate his partner’s birthday this past Monday May 27, a day after his last concert in the interior of Bahia.
Social networks were filled with messages of condolence for the death of the singer, who before his boom in 2018 already had a career as a musician, although he achieved fame a few months ago thanks to his song ‘Jenifer’.
“No one thought that I would have such success. Nor those who work with me or my representative“, openly confessed the singer in an interview at the beginning of 2019. The Brazilian was ranked number one for a few weeks with streams on Spotify and video views on YouTube totaling 230 million reproductions.
