An Atlas Air flight bound for the island of Guam was forced to make an emergency landing in Honolulu after a plane’s engine caught fire in midair, reports Khon 2.
None of the 212 passengers on board were injured.
The incident took place on Saturday, 5 minutes after the aircraft, chartered by the US Army, took off from Hickman Air Force Base (Honolulu, Hawaii) bound for Guam.
The Federal Aviation Agency later confirmed that it was an Atlas Air Boeing 767 that suffered mechanical problems in one of its engines.
The images that a passenger took with his cell phone inside the plane show the dark cabin that is sporadically illuminated by the flares that occur in a wing.
