A Japanese man with 246 packets of cocaine in his stomach and intestine died in the middle of a flight between Bogotá and Tokyo. The authorities reported that the plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Mexico.
The 42-year-old man, identified only as Udo N, began to convulse after the commercial flight took off and the crew had to ask permission to make an emergency landing in Hermosillo. “When the plane landed at 2: 25 on Friday, the paramedics boarded and declared Udo n dead,” they said, cited by the Guardian.
In a subsequent autopsy it was discovered that the man had swallowed 246 packets of cocaine, each with 1 cm by 2.5 cm. The cause of death was an inflammation of the brain caused by an overdose, prosecutors said.
The Aeromexico airline transported another 198 passengers and continued the flight to Japan after the body was removed and international protocols were activated.
