The Bodies of the Ukrainian Victims of the Iran Air Crash Return Home to Their Families

The bodies of the 11 Ukrainian citizens, who died when a commercial plane was accidentally shot down by Iran this month, were transferred to Ukraine on Sunday in a solemn ceremony at the Kiev airport.

The 176 passengers of the Ukraine International Airlines flight from Tehran to Kiev died after the Boeing 737-800 being shot down on January 8, when Iran was on high alert for a US attack.

Most of the passengers were Iranian or dual citizenship. Canada had 57 citizens on board.

Nine of the Ukrainian citizens were members of the crew.

The coffins covered with the Ukrainian flag were taken, one by one, from a Ukrainian military plane to a hearse waiting at the Boryspil airport in Kiev.

The ceremony was accompanied by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

The soldiers held flags to represent the different nationalities of the deceased.

Family members arrived at the airport carrying bouquets while the airline staff, some with tears in their eyes, waited on the runway.
