The phenomenon is due to the diffraction of light in the water droplets of the clouds.
Russian photographer Svetlana Kazina managed to capture with her camera a unique natural optical phenomenon, rainbow clouds. Kazina, who left her life in a large city to move to a remote area in the Russian republic of Altai , photographed the clouds early in the morning around the highest peak of the homonymous massif: Mount Beluja.
The clouds appear to be made up of several spectral colors that gradually disperse through the air. That phenomenon, also known as irisization, has a scientific justification. They can usually be seen in the sky in autumn or winter in the immediate vicinity of the Sun or the Moon. It is due to the presence in the clouds of small drops of water or small crystals of ice that disperse the light in this way.
“The clouds in my photos are so thin that they are more like a lace than normal clouds. The wind force at this altitude was high and the cloud fabric pattern changed every second ,” the photographer explained on Instagram, and compares the clouds with “giant soap bubbles” and “an opaline jellyfish.”
His social network account has tens of thousands of followers, and it is there that he shares photos of beautiful landscapes, mountains, lakes and rivers of his beloved region.
