“Thomas Cook had promised us a surprise for our wedding because of my name but it is not the surprise that we expected,” said Monday this young Englishman, quoted by the online media Nottinghamshire.
Thomas Cook, 29, and his partner Amelia Binch, 27, who live in Hucknall, near Nottingham, England, went to Rhodes with their two children on September 18 and were due to be married in Lindos on September 27.
Guests were expected to arrive with Thomas Cook (the company) in the coming days, including the groom’s witness.
Everything is now questioned since the ceremony – flowers, cake, decorations and entertainment– was also organized by Thomas Cook, who brutally went bankrupt in the night from Sunday to Monday.
Thomas Cook, who works for Rolls Royce, said he was “stunned”.
“We were expecting more than 30 people, family and friends. Half of them are nailed to their homes in uncertainty. My witness is still in England, nobody knows anything.”
“It’s been two years since we prepared that and everything falls into the water,” he lamented.
“It’s a nightmare,” added Amelia.
“They told us we could be repatriated at any time (…) It’s awful, you do not expect that from a company like that. That’s why we went with them and now it’s going to cost us more,” she said, adding that she spent about 10,000 pounds ($ 16,510) for the party.
