General Alireza Sabahi Fard, commander of the Hatam ol-Anbiya air force base in Iran, publicly announced that his country now has an integrated radar system capable of detecting various types of US military aircraft, including stealth aircraft.

“Today we have received complete self-reliance in the field of radar systems. We can detect several advanced US planes and send a warning to Washington, ”the general said at a press conference in Tehran.

The general also commended the successes achieved by Iran in the development of defensive weapon systems that, he said, “made the enemies realize that if they wanted to start a conflict with us, they would receive heavy blows.”

The media said that last month Iran introduced its new Hordad 15 anti-aircraft missile system, and Iranian Defense Minister Amir Khatami said the new weapon can track aerial targets at a distance of 150 km and hit them at a distance of up to 120 km.

“It can also track stealth targets in areas at a distance of 85 km and destroy them at a distance of 45 km,” he added.

Increase in tensions in the Persian Gulf.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have deteriorated since May 2018, when the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iranian nuclear agreement and adopted a “maximum pressure” policy on Iran.

Tensions increased further when, on July 4, British Marines seized the Iranian tanker Grace 1 in the Strait of Gibraltar on suspicion that the ship “transported oil to Syria” and, therefore, violated the sanctions of the EU against the country, charges that were refuted by Tehran, which described the seizure of its tanker as an illegal act.

On July 19, the IRGC confiscated a British flag tanker Stena Impero for alleged violation of maritime law. Iran insisted that this was not done in retaliation for the Grace 1 incident.
