The passenger traffic at airports in South Korea exceeded 10 million people in January 2019.
On February 24, representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport reported that passenger traffic increased by 5.1% to 10.58 million people, which is the highest monthly figure. The increase in passenger traffic is associated with an increase in trips abroad during the winter holidays, an increase in cheap air tickets, as well as an increase in tourists from China.
The number of passengers from abroad increased by 6.6% to 8.02 million people. In particular, passenger traffic from China increased by 15.2%, from Europe by 14.4%, from Southeast Asia by 5.8% and from the USA by 4.1%.
The number of domestic passengers also increased by 0.6%. This is due to the increase in flights from Gimpo, Cheongju, Gunsan airports. However, air traffic, by contrast, fell by 1.8% to 360,000 tons.
“We expect that the passenger traffic will continue to increase due to the introduction of the 52-hour work week, an increase in the flow of tourists from China”, said the representatives from the ministry.
