Eliz Fulop recounted the details of the experience that her husband, her little girl and she had to live despite the fact that they had already travelled on previous occasions during the pandemic with the same airline that did not let her fly.
Millions of reproductions accumulate on social networks the emotional discharge of a woman from the United States in which she explains through tears how her family was removed from a flight at Denver International Airport because her 2-year-old daughter did not want to wear the mask. The story begins when Eliz Fulop and her husband, Erhard Orban, along with little Edeline, travelled to the mountains of Colorado on a ski trip and had a flight scheduled to New Jersey to visit relatives for the weekend.
In their testimony shared in viral video on their YouTube channel, Fulop points out that they travel frequently on United Airlines, but that they did not review the company’s policy regarding the use of masks with minors before boarding. This was the first time they had experienced the cabin crew putting this regulation into practice despite the fact that the girl travelled without a mask on three previous occasions during the pandemic and this was going to be the fourth.
The couple said the crew on board asked them about their daughter’s age before boarding and told her she needed to wear a mask. Since she didn’t have one on hand, they provided one for her. In the edited version of the video shared by Fulop, she and Orban try to put the mask on Edeline several times, but the little girl refused. It is unknown how long United workers tried to help them resolve the situation or what options they were given before escorting them off the plane.
“Humiliated. Very confused. Almost disgusted with myself “
Fulop said he started recording after he heard the pilot say that some passengers were going to be taken off the flight. The family noted that the United crew did not immediately emphasize that the girl should wear a mask, but that one of the supervisors approached them when they were in their seats and asked them to leave. “Humiliated. Very confused. Almost disgusted with myself for having to do that to my daughter,” said the woman.
In this regard, United sent a statement stating that the “health and safety of its employees and customers is our highest priority, which is why we have a set of multi-level policies, which include the obligation that everyone on board 2 years or older wear a mask. These procedures are not only supported by guidance from the CDC and our partners at the Cleveland Clinic, but are also consistent across all major airlines.”
“We are investigating this specific incident and have contacted the family. We also reimbursed their tickets and returned their safety seat and luggage, “the airline remarked, although this last point is debatable if we take into account the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) which, in general, indicates that for minors up to 5 years of age are not required to use face masks.
